COVID-19: Vaccines to be mandatory for frontline dental staff

LONDON, UK: Last week, UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid announced that frontline healthcare workers in England—including dentists working either for the NHS or in a private setting—will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 from April 2022 to continue working in their current capacity. The news has drawn a mixed response thus far from medical unions and organisations including the British Dental Association (BDA), whose chief executive stated it “risks undermining already fragile access at [dental] practices across the country”.

Omicron and NHS targets: Dentists in England struggle to restore services

LONDON, UK: Since the English government has decided to ease some of the COVID-19 restrictions just as the winter season has arrived, some professional bodies, including the British Dental Association (BDA), are questioning the timing of the decision. In light of the arrival of the Omicron variant and unattainable National Health Service (NHS) targets, the BDA believes that the new standard operating procedures for dentists will not help improve access to dental care in the country. Interview with Dr. Richard Price: The importance of a high-quality curing light

The new Bluephase PowerCure and the G4 from Ivoclar Vivadent offer more than most clinicians expect from a high-performance curing light. In addition to short polymerization times, starting from just 3 seconds from the Bluephase PowerCure when used with Tetric PowerFill or Tetric PowerFlow, these two lights support dentists through reliable polymerization performance, owing to the integrated Polyvision technology, which acts as a personal curing assistant. As pointed out by Dr. Richard Price, who is a professor of prosthodontics at Dalhousie University Halifax in Nova Scotia in Canada, and an intraoral polymerization expert, the broad emission spectrum of the Bluephase series of lights means that they will polymerize all known dental resins.

Calibrated IPR can improve predictability of clear aligner therapy

NEW YORK, U.S.: The number of dental practices that offer clear aligner treatment is increasing, and so too is the need for interproximal reduction (IPR) as a technique to reshape enamel in order to achieve sufficient space to keep the tooth movements within the biological limitations of the patient’s jaws. According to Dr. Jesper Hatt, co-founder of clear aligner treatment planning, training and education platform Alignerservice.com, IPR can often be used as an alternative to tooth extractions, but the technique is not without its challenges.
